The Best Cinnamon Buns

These are the best cinnamon buns you will ever make! Fluffy yet dense. Rolled with the perfect amount of butter, cinnamon and brown sugar that melts into this ooey gooey goodness!

Who doesn’t love a nice homemade cinnamon bun?! These are the best cinnamon buns you will ever make, or try!

They are easy to make, using simple ingredients. And I know, you are probably thinking…”where’s the frosting?!”. You don’t need it!

These guys are already sweet, and delicious as is! But by all means, add the frosting if you want!

The bottoms of these buns are like sticky buns! The butter, brown sugar and cinnamon melt while baking, and it is absolute perfect.

When making the dough, you want a nice thick, smooth consistency that isn’t super sticky.

For the filling, you are basically making your own cinnamon and sugar butter. And just like most delicious recipes, there is a decent amount of butter. But I used a plant based butter, which I am obsessed with! It’s by Country Crock. Avocado oil butter. I haven’t baked with real butter for a while now.

It’s kinda like making a pizza, but then rolling it up into a long roll.

I literally can’t get over how perfect these were. If you make them, I guarantee they will be gone before you know it. And everyone will be wanting more!

If you make this recipe, I hope you enjoy it!

Total Time 1 hour 20 minutes
Course breads, Breakfast
Servings 12 buns

Ingredients

For Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • tsps instant dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup salted butter, soft
  • cups all purpose flour, divided
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

For Filling

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, soft so its spreadable
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

For Dough

  • Pour warm milk in bowl of a stand mixer and sprinkle yeast on top. If you dont have a stand mixer, use a large bowl.
  • Add butter, eggs, salt and sugar.
  • Add in 4 cups of flour and mix using the paddle attachement, or wooden spoon until ingredients are combined. Allow mixture to rest for 5 minutes so flour soaks up liquids.
  • Scrape dough off of paddle and remove. Attach dough hook attachment.
  • Beat dough on medium speed adding the rest of the flour (1/2 cup).
  • Knead for 5-7 minutes. Or by hand if you dont have a dough hook attachment. You want the dough to be nice and smooth. Not too sticky.
  • Spray a large bowl with cooking spray. Use spatula to remove dough from mixing bowl to large greased bowl.
  • Cover bowl with a towel, and set bowl in warm place. I put mine in the microwave. Let rise for 30 minutes.

For Filling

  • In medium bowl, mix together butter, cinnamon and brown sugar until butter is smooth and spreadable.
  • When dough is done rising, sprinkle counter top generously with flour.
  • Place dough on floured surface and sprinkle top of dough with flour.
  • Flour a rolling pin and roll out into a rectangular shape. About 24×25 inches. It doesn't have to be a perfect triangle.
  • Used a rubber spatula or knife to spread and smooth out cinnamon filling over entire dough.
  • Roll dough up tightly into a roll, starting on the long end.
  • Cut into 12 slices and place in greased 9×13 baking dish.
  • Cover pan and allow buns to rise 20 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, until they start to turn a golden brown.
  • You can add your favorite icing on top if you'd like! I didnt want mine to be too sweet. They were just as delicious without the frosting!
  • Enjoy!
