Ive tried a lot of chili recipes in my lifetime of cooking. Every recipe turned out to be mediocre. They were good, but not like “WOW this is GOOD” good. This recipe, however is good good, like REALLY good! The best slow cooker chili. It definitely deserves its title “the best”.
There are quite a few ingredients in this chili, and a nice mixture of spices. But there is one ingredient in particular that kind of threw me for a loop. Cocoa powder! But to be honest, when I saw that was one of the ingredients, I knew right then and there that this chili was going to be delicious! Some of the best recipes always seem to have that random ingredient, or “secret” ingredient if you will.
This recipe also called for some sugar. Out of all the chili recipes I’ve made, I can say I’ve never added sugar. Its amazing though. It adds this perfect sweetness, which makes it super hearty and delish!
Most slow cooker chili recipes, you usually just dump every single ingredient into the slow cooker and turn the sucker on, which is super easy. No extra pots or pans to clean up.
With this recipe, you only use one sauté pan to brown your onion, garlic and cook your meat. But its totally worth it! Whats cleaning one pan when you’ll have an amazing chili at the end?!
You first want to cook your onions and garlic for a few minutes, just to get all of the flavors going. Then, add them to the crockpot. In the same pan you want to cook your turkey.
Add your turkey on top of the onions in crockpot, along with every single ingredients thats left to add. No particular order. Mix it around. Cover and cook on low heat for 5-6 hours.
I topped mine with some shredded sharp cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onions!
Some delicious cornbread would be amazing to serve as a side. Or any type of bread really!
