Bean Balls – Vegetarian Meatballs

These bean balls are a great alternative for all you vegetarians. They have flavorful spices, and a nice moist texture just like an actual meatball!

Beans are amazing. You can use them in so many recipes. Recipes you wouldn’t even think to add them to. They have awesome health benefits and are super filling.

Beans have a great consistency when you mash them up. They can be great alternatives for certain ingredients that you want to exclude from your diet.

Although there are a decent amount of ingredients in this recipe, they are all simple ingredients. Most likely you have every single ingredient in this photo already.

You know that saying…”Beans, beans, they’re good for your heart. The more you eat, the more you…” well…you know the rest, and if you don’t, I’m sure google will help you figure out the rest.

Beans are high in minerals and fiber without the saturated fat found in some animal proteins. They have a decent amount of protein.

After adding all of the ingredients together, and mixing them all up, I noticed that the mixture is very similar to what an actual meatball mixture is like.

I personally like to enjoy these guys as is, by themselves. But I bet these would be great in a sauce over pasta, or in a rice bowl, or even in a salad!

Enjoy!!

Servings 12 Bean Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 15.5 OZ. Can Of Cannellini Beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/4 Cup Plain Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/3 Cup Onion, diced
  • 2 Cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 TSP Oregano
  • 1 TSP Salt
  • 1/4 TSP Paprika

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a food processor, puree beans until they are smooth. Make sure there are no pieces of whole beans. If you don't have a food processor, you can use a potato masher, or fork.
  • Add your mashed beans to a large mixing bowl.
  • Add bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, onion, garlic, paprika and oregano. Mix everything together until well combined.
  • If your mixture isn't as tacky and thick as you need, add more bread crumbs to mixture. You want a nice thick consistency just like a meatball.
  • On a non stick lined baking sheet, roll mixture into balls, and place on baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. They are done when they start to turn golden brown.
  • Enjoy these as is, or add them to some sauce with pasta, or on top of a rice bowl, or salad! The possibilities are endless!
