Gluten Free + Dairy Free Avocado Brownies

These gluten free and dairy free brownies will leave you feeling guilt free and satisfied. Soft, chocolatey and moist brownies with no dairy or gluten, using only natural sweeteners!

Ok, first off I have to say…I was a little skeptical to test out a brownie recipe using no dairy, white sugar, brown sugar or all purpose flour. I thought for sure that my first recipe round was going to be a complete failure…and disgusting.

And I have to be honest…any recipe that’s titled “gluten free” or “dairy free” never tempts me to make it.

But let’s get real people. Gluten is not good for you. Neither is dairy…or sugar. However, there are great alternatives for those ingredients without making your recipes taste like bland cardboard.

Obviously a traditional ooey, gooey, fudgy brownie is where it’s at, and nothing can beat those. But sometimes your body just needs a break from those ingredients that are in traditional brownies.

I used bananas to replace eggs, and an avocado to replace the butter or vegetable oil. Theres alot of good fats in avocados. If you aren’t a fan of avocados, don’t let that turn you away from this recipe. You cant even taste the avocados in these brownies.

You can taste the banana a little bit. But its a nice flavor! It’s pretty cool how you can substitute certain ingredients with certain fruits and vegetables.

Even my husband didn’t believe that I could make brownies using an avocado and banana. He was proved wrong once he tasted a brownie…

I need to chat a little bit about coconut sugar. So, this was my first time using it. I read other food bloggers recipes using coconut sugar, and heard how much better it was for you than white sugar. I was intrigued. So I bought some, and incorporated it into this recipe. Glad I did!

I tried a little bit of the coconut sugar by itself…and it is so so good! I bet it would be delicious sprinkled over some strawberries. It just has this really delicious wholesome taste.

Because this recipe obviously isn’t a traditional brownie recipe using eggs, and vegetable oil, the batter isn’t going to be as liquid and watery. It’s more of a thick brownie paste if you will.

You have to keep in mind before tasting these brownies that they aren’t the usual brownies your used to having. They are going to have a different texture, consistency and taste. But don’t let that scare you! The taste was delicious, and the texture was great!! And the best thing is that I didn’t feel guilty after having one…or three.

Enjoy!!
