Korean Beef Sloppy Joes

This recipe for Korean beef sloppy Joes has so many flavors going on! Ground beef cooked in a pool of flavorful ingredients, served on a sweet brioche bun!

Korean beef sloppy Joes. They’re called sloppy for a reason, as you can see! You shouldn’t eat a sloppy Joe, and not get food all over your fingers and hands. Thats no fun!

Just make sure you have a fork near by to pick up the delicious pieces of beef that WILL fall out of the bun. You don’t want to waste any of the good stuff!

Who is Joe?

That is a good question. I tried looking it up on google, but found a few answers that were completely different. So I’m not about to give you false information. But my guess is that whoever created this delicious, sloppy sandwich name was Joe?…

Like I said, there are many flavors going on with these sloppy joes. But the flavor that sticks out the most is the hoisin.

Ive never purchased hoisin before or added it to a recipe. I wasn’t sure what it tasted like, but when I finally tasted it, it tasted very familiar. Its delicious!

You can use whichever type of buns you would like, but I highly recommend using brioche buns! The sweetness blends so nicely with the sweetness of the beef and saltiness!

I actually made my own brioche buns, which came out great! So I will be posting that recipe in the near future!

Servings 4 Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • lbs. ground beef
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsps sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup hoisin
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsps low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp sriracha
  • 2 green onions, sliced thin
  • 4 brioche rolls, or rolls of choice

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook beef, breaking it up a little, but not too much. You want the chunks to be big to help give the sandwhich stability.
  • Cook until well browned, about 5-6 minutes. Then add garlic, sesame oil, ketchup, hoisin, water, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and sriracha. Stir everything together with the beef.
  • Cook on medium heat for about 5-6 minutes, until mixture thickens and becomes "sloppy".
  • Toast the buns (optional) and spoon the beef mixture on to buns, then top with green onions.
  • Enjoy!
