French Onion Shredded Chicken
This French onion shredded chicken recipe is for onion lovers! Chicken is slow cooked in a pool of sweet, caramelized onions, herbs and sauces! The flavors of this dish were incredible!

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 medium sweet onions, diced
- 1 lb. chicken breast or tenders
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt + more to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar - for caramelizing onions
- 1/4 cup steak sauce
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- rice or grain of choice to serve with
- chives or green onions for garnish (optional)
First you want to caramelize the onions. In large sauté pan over medium-high heat, add olive oil, chopped onions and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Stir around occasionally and cook for about 15 minutes, or until onions start to turn brown.
In slow cooker, add chicken broth, chicken breast or tenders, thyme, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, steak sauce, worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, sour cream and caramelized onions.
Cover slow cooker and cook on HIGH heat for 2-3 hours or LOW heat for 4-6 hours.
When done, take chicken out and shred with fork. Put chicken back in slow cooker and mix around. turn heat to warm and keep uncovered to help thicken everything up.
Cook your grain of choice, and serve chicken on top!
